Personality disorder involves rigid pattern of thinking, functioning, behaving and relating with others. Their pattern of thinking and relating with others will be different and they find no issues with them and thinks that others have problems with them and blame others for their problems. This disrupts the individual’s functioning, interpersonal relationships and social life. The symptoms of personality disorder varies depending on the specific personality disorder and the symptoms ranges from mild to severe. Major symptoms that signals personality disorders are: distortion in the way of thinking about oneself and others, difference in responding emotionally and relation with others and change in the way of controlling one’s behavior.

Paranoid Personality Disorder

Paranoid personality disorder is characterized by suspiciousness and distrust. Individuals with paranoid personality disorder holds unjustified beliefs, suspicions and grudges on others. They are hostile and assumes others would harm them and do not disclose anything to others.

Schizoid Personality Disorder

In this type, individuals tend to detach from social situations and relationships, prefers being alone, express limited range of emotions, unable to enjoy pleasure in most activities and remain uninterested in people.

Schizotypal Personality Disorder

Schizotypal personality disorder is marked by distorted thinking, speech, behavior and beliefs. Individuals with this disorder has social anxiety, inappropriate emotional responses, lack comfortnes in close relationships, believes casual events carries hidden meanings meant only for them and possess strange perceptual experiences.

Antisocial Personality Disorder

In this type, individuals violates rights of others, ignore others needs and feelings, frequently lies, steals, lacks guilt, irresponsible, disobey social rules, act impulsively, often exhibits aggressive behavior.

Borderline Personality Disorder

This disorder is characterized by instability in personal relationships, indulges in risky behavior, fears abandonment and would do anything to avoid abandonment, possess poor self-image, threatens to harm oneself, displays intense anger and feels empty almost all time.

Histrionic Personality Disorder

Individuals with this disorder seeks attention constantly, is dramatic, excessively emotional, feels uncomfortable when they are not the centre of attention, possess rapidly changing emotions, is excessively concerned with their appearance, and thinks relationships are closer than it is actually.

Narcissistic Personality Disorder

This disorder is characterized by need for admiration, praise, lacks empathy, feels they are special and more important than others, exaggerate achievements, inconsiderate about other’s needs, take advantage of others and envies others or thinks that others envy them.

Avoidant Personality Disorder

Individuals with this disorder will be too sensitive to criticism and rejection, preoccupied with rejection, feels inferior and inadequate, socially inhibited, avoid meeting strangers and new activities that require interpersonal contact.

Dependent Personality Disorder

Dependent personality disorder is characterized by dependence on others, feels the need to be taken care of, is clingy, requires reassurance from others for all life activities, feels discomfort when left alone, difficulty making daily life decisions and initiating projects on own, fears disapproval, and tolerate abusive treatment even if other options are available.

Obsessive-Compulsive Personality Disorder

Individuals with this disorder is always preoccupied with perfectionism, orderliness and details, focus extremely on details and perfectionism due to which they may not finish a project or work, if the standards they have set was not met. Neglect friends and enjoyable activities due to excessive commitment to work or a project, rigid about moral values, inability to throw away broken or worthless objects and is miserly in spending money.
